The essay was published as an accompanying reflection on a residency program between Lamu, Kenya, and Basel, Switzerland, in which I participated. In it, I raise the questions of what it means to conduct artistic research in an environment characterized by power imbalances and exploitation. What kinds of exchange are possible? What forms of care are necessary?
