The complex dialogue on environmental issues in a globalized world is about reconciling the needs of humans and nature. The mangrove forests on the east coast of Africa offer a real and symbolic space in which to consider this dialogue.

In my half-hour contribution, which was first broadcast on Deutschlandfunk on April 27, 2025, I explore the numerous interconnections that affect the mangrove ecosystem—both literally and figuratively. Between biotope, sanctuary, and geopolitical interface, mangroves open up a space for thinking about questions of coexistence, interconnectedness, and resilience.
