In recent months, the digital offering of museums and cultural institutions has been primarily one thing: the mediation of analog exhibition - that is, the digital image of what is otherwise available to see; KW Digital is taking a different approach and conceiving an exhibition specifically for the website.
Embedded in this new format is the first exhibition, tellingly titled The Last Museum (April 30-June 6, 2021). It is the first step in a dedicated program that aims to "explore the cultural impact of digital transformation through creative and critical means."
In the newly created commissioned works, different media are closely intertwined: six artist:s created sculptures on six continents and installed them in a freely chosen location. These installations were recorded on video to create the digital world that can be seen on the website. Additional videos, text passages and images are superimposed on it, through which visitors can move freely by clicking.
The result is a special online experience that transfers the mnemonic gaming character to the art field and, with the interplay of analog and digital, helps to negotiate how tangible proximity and distance interact with each other.
