Description
On a tour of the exhibition with Nadine Wietlisbach, Director of the Fotomuseum Winterthur, author Ann Mbuti talks about (missing) representation, gaps and blank spaces. Using the exhibition as an example, she shows how gaps can be recognised and how they can be dealt with.
Individual works by Sherrie Levine and Lorna Simpson will also be discussed; both artists inscribe themselves in visual culture – and thus in art history – through their work. Levine does so by photographing the works of male artists and claiming authorship for them, and Simpson by recreating photographs from the private collection of a young black woman, thus highlighting the white man's view.
